Jonathan was 14th in Gavere Sunday
after getting 7th in Hooglede the day before. Check the
photos page and the Journal for a report from him. |

JP got 7th saturday in a Cat 1 and
then 15th in the World Cup. Word is he had the wrong tire
pressure and went from a great start to about 29th, then Franky V
made an adjustment and he was flying and chased back up to 15th.
I noticed he was running the clinchers this race, which would
indicate that he thought it was really really slippery as he
usually runs the tubies. Tire pressure is different for the
clinchers then the tubies for the same "feel" so maybe that was
it. The big boys have a garage full of "custom" Dugast's and
tire selection is a real science. Vervecken brings 16 pairs
of wheels to the race! And Groenendal is known to have Mr.
Dugast (not his name, its a new guy) develop him a new tire for
Worlds or other big races, he is the tire geek of the bunch I
guess. You may have seen the white or pink tires they have
been using. Jonathan does
not have a tire sponsor this year, so he is probably riding
whatever is least expensive!
Anyway, 15th is pretty good.
He is doing a journal for Bike.com
this week, so check there Tuesday. He also promised to give
us some info as well (they have been slacking).
I put up pictures of this
weekend, and a couple NEW BABY EMMA photos. What a cutie! |

Jonathan raced Thursday in Niel. You can WATCH THE RACE
FOOTAGE on a website hosted by Ewoud
Dronkert in Belgium. He records the TV coverage and breaks
it into mpegs you can very very cleanly view if you have a decent
internet connection! Just click and sit back and watch!
OHMYGOD its awesome.
The link is
http://www.phys.uu.nl/~dronkert/tmp/ and I do not believe he
leaves them up for more then a week or so, so get over and watch.
Its broken down into two laps movies.
To save you some time, JP gets
the hole shot in the start and is OTF with a couple others in the
first two laps. He said he may have given it a little too
much in all the excitement, and he had a couple bad laps (3-4)
when the big players caught the lead group and countered. He
rode strongly enough to garner 15th, which is pretty decent
considering the field. But the first two laps are a MUST SEE
for anyone reading this website.
I also posted some photos, but,
after watching the whole damn race on TV, it seems kinda
hollow....
Jonathan races twice this
weekend, so check back Monday for an update. I bet Ewoud
will have video too, so hit that for sure. |

Ok, update - Jonathan was in the group for fourth in Eernegem when
he flatted! Chased back on, but did not make the front
group. He ended up with Vannoppen. He was pretty mad
to have missed a top spot again due to last lap flat. Thats
cross racing though. What can you do? Sunday he was on
Groenendal's wheel, who was a main protagonist that day. He
went down hard and JP literally launched over him. Not good.
That was crash one of FOUR that day. Very slippery course.
Anyway, he pulled the plug after he cut his leg up, etc. He
was riding well between crashes, according to my on site sources,
very fast. Again, I guess that's racing.
No report, but Jonathan was 11th in Eernegem with a world cup
quality field. He initially led the race, but could not go
with the eventual top three when they attacked. He sprinted
Tom Vannoppen for 10th and lost it. Not a bad day.
Vossem
was Sunday, another big race. This is a very hilly course,
similar to the Koppenburg according to the winner, French
champion Gadret. Jonathan finished similarly to that race,
and DNF'd. Don't know any details, but he looks worked over
in the photos, and also seems to have taken a spill. Lots of
riders went down on a dangerous (or fun, you call it) downhill.
Couple photos from there as well. |
